Hand in Hand has long advocated for 5 days for sick leave as a fair employment policy in the home. On September 30, 2020, our organizing efforts alongside the National Domestic Workers Alliance paid off, when the Paid Safe and Sick Leave Law was updated increasing paid days for domestic workers from 2 days to 5 days.

Domestic workers, such as homecare workers, who work for an employer with 100 employees or more can earn more than 5 days.

During the campaign, Hand in Hand members provided testimony to the Committee on Consumer Affairs and Business Licensing at NYC Council. Additionally, Hand in Hand members joined Paid Safe and Sick Leave Rountables hosted by the NYC  Department  of  Consumer Affairs and Worker Protection to  share their support of this law and strategies about  how to implement it  at home.
