Hand in Hand is participating in a Legislative Workgroup, under WA State L&I. As a result of the organizing of the Domestic Workers Coalition, and championed by Sen. Rebecca Saldaña, L&I was directed by the state legislature in the biennial budget to convene a workgroup to investigate how to expand access to the state’s workers’ compensation system for domestic workers and day laborers. Domestic Workers are currently excluded from workers’ compensation, and are often find themselves financially and physically devastated by an on the job injury, without ability to work, or cover medical costs.
