In 2016, Hand in Hand joined its allies in the San Francisco Care Council to win funding and approval for a new program called Support at Home to provide older adults and people with disabilities with up to 15 hours of subsidized homecare per week, and to ensure that the home attendants in the program got a $15/hour wage (above the min wage at the time).
The program is for upper poor and working class people who don’t qualify for In-Home Supportive Services (Medicaid funded homecare). The program’s funding has been extended twice and continues to serve between 150-200 San Franciscans per year.
