We are building a just and caring economy starting in our homes and communities.
Millions of people in the United States work with domestic workers who keep our children safe, support aging and disabled loved ones, and clean our homes. Nannies, house cleaners, home care workers and attendants support us to live full lives with dignity and support. But domestic workers, who are mostly women and disproportionately women of color and immigrants, are too often unseen and unrecognized, paid low wages and lack benefits.
Those of us who employ domestic workers are rarely recognized as an identity group in our country as well. We are parents. We are people with disabilities and older adults. Many of us are juggling caregiving and jobs outside the home that leads us to hire. And we value the labor of this workforce.
At Hand in Hand, we believe employers have a role to play in making sure domestic workers are treated with dignity and respect and making sure that caregiving is supported for all of us.
