Who is Hand in Hand?

Hand in Hand: The Domestic Employers Network is a national organization of employers of nannies, house cleaners and home attendants, family caregivers, older adults and people with disabilities. Through mass education and policy campaigns we work to bring rights, dignity and respect to domestic workers and those they support— with the understanding that dignified and respectful working conditions benefit  worker and employee alike.  We envision a world where we all get the support we need to work, live and age with dignity and where our interdependence is celebrated.

What kind of support does Hand in Hand provide?

Hand in Hand provides resources and education to employers of house cleaners, nannies, and home attendants. Our materials are created in consultation with domestic workers through our close partnership with the National Domestic Workers Alliance and other local and national partners. We have trained thousands of people through our workshops and webinars in small and larger group settings. In 2022 alone, over 15,000 people used our written resources.

What impact does our work make?

Because the domestic work industry is informal, when it comes to hiring and employing someone in the home, oftentimes people feel at sea. We hear from employers that before working with Hand in Hand, how much they struggled to find meaningful and trustworthy advice.  Hand in Hand is the only organization that works in consultation with both domestic workers and employers to offer best practices. People love our workshops because our expert trainers offer clear actionable guidance; participants learn how to align their employment practices with their values; and ultimately fair employment practices lead to better quality of care.

Hand in Hand exists to help individuals who are thinking about hiring as well as people who have employed the same house cleaner for 25 years. We help people think through the history of domestic work and its connection to labor policy today. We support making sure that employers have all the resources they need to make their homes safe, ethical workplaces.Group of people sitting in a circle at at workshop
