Last week Stacy Kono, Hand in Hand's Executive Director, alongside our Erica Sklar, Hand in Hand National Organizer and Dana Barnett, Hand in Hand Washington Organizer (both not pictured here), attended Respect and Equity (CARE) Fund's second annual convening in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They met, learned and strategized with other care advocates about building a movement for good care jobs and affordable care for everyone. The CARE Fund is a collaborative of funders across the country that are investing in "a publicly financed care infrastructure that works for everyone." We were so glad to have been a part of it!

This week: Hand in Hand staff from throughout the country is gathering in Philadelphia for our annual work retreat (first full staff retreat in these post-COVID times) to do even more planning and strategizing ! Stay tuned for more from that ... 👀

About last night in Oakland ... Hand in Hand members and staff joined our partners at CA Domestic Workers Coalition at the "Rights and Realities" art show, to celebrate the incredible photos and art that expressed the dignity that comes with being treated with respect and being safe in one's work.

HIH members María Guillén and Monique Harris spoke about the significance of being a part of the Care Pairs photo project. In their words:

"When I was invited to be photographed for this project, I hoped to emulate the courage of the women in this movement." - Maria

"I agreed to be part of this project because I wanted to lift up the importance of attendant support and help bring credibility to the profession." - Monique

The night was a re-commitment to our fight for health and safety for CA domestic workers. It's been a long time coming, #HealthAndSafetyNow!

I was particularly moved by this powerful photo of Rosalie Carrillo, a homecare worker of PAWIS. Her expression shows both love and determination and represents for me the love and determination that powers all of us who are calling for #HealthandSafety protections for domestic workers. You should visit the gallery at Oakstop, California Governor and really see the domestic workers and employers featured.
