What is the Fair Care Pledge?
The Fair Care Pledge is a way to affirm that you will do your best to be a fair and respectful employer when you hire someone to work in your home as a childcare provider, housecleaner, or home attendant for a person with a disability or senior—and that you will seek out the information you need to make your home a workplace you can be proud of.
As in all workplaces, we know that everyone benefits when employer and employee are treated well and with respect. But unlike other workplaces, there’s no HR manager sitting at your kitchen table helping you figure this out. That’s why the Pledge gets you started with three best employment practices: Fair Pay, Clear Expectations, and Paid Time Off. Being fair really begins with these three steps! Finally, the Pledge is a way for you to let your friends and family know about your commitment to being a fair employer—and for you to ask them to join you in doing the same.
Can I sign it if I haven't employed anyone yet, or if I employed someone in the past but don't currently?
Absolutely! Signing the Pledge before you employ gives you time to prepare, read through the resources and get ready for your home to become someone’s workplace. Showing potential employees that you’ve signed the Pledge will make you a more appealing employer!

I want to be a fair employer but I have questions about the Pledge (i.e. I don't know if I can do everything right away etc). Can I still sign?
The Fair Care Pledge is intended to help you become a fair employer in your home. We encourage you to sign and then review our recommended best employment practices and take as many steps as you can toward building a mutually respectful domestic employment relationship.
