Domestic work is essential work.

Earlier this month, we joined our NYC Coalition for Domestic Work partners at a Paid Care Workers Convening hosted by New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection — an opportunity to not only recognize the essential and dignified work of domestic workers, but to put policy enforcement behind it.

Domestic work makes all other work possible — and when domestic workers have a seat at the table, their rights and protections become reality!

It's not often that we have the opportunity to talk directly to legislators – this was a great surprise drop-in visit!

Hand in Hand member Kristy Madden had an opportunity to speak 1:1 with Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo about the current budget actions against IHSS, the effect of HR.1 on IHSS recipients, and the fear that ICE has unleashed in our communities.

The meetings and calls to our California State legislators continue, and the message remains the same: find new revenues by taxing corporate wealth — rather than balancing the budget on the backs of our communities.
