Sanctuary Homes

For many of us, our home is a sanctuary — the heart of our family, a place that is truly our own and where we find deep and meaningful connection. Our homes are powerful centers for moral action, where we can enact our values.

In this moment, thinking of our home as a sanctuary is also a powerful framework of resistance against the injustice of the federal government’s anti-immigration agenda.

Hand in Hand is mobilizing domestic employers and allies to show solidarity with domestic workers & neighbors, educate ourselves on immigrant rights, offer support, and build connections.

How we’re mobilizing and taking action:

Resource Creation: We’re developing resources alongside domestic worker partners to help employers support the immigrant domestic workers they employ. Resources can be found below.

Sanctuary Homes Trainings & House Parties: We’re hosting virtual and in-person trainings to learn how to support immigrant domestic workers and neighbors through legal know-your-rights info and practical steps to make your home a fair and safe workplace. We gather in churches, synagogues, living rooms, backyards to learn together, meet our neighbors, and take action.

Outreach Days: Hand in Hand members are doing outreach in parks, farmers markets and other spaces to share resources and build networks of resistance.
