Right now, the U.S. Senate is deliberating a budget reconciliation bill—a proposal that would gut essential care programs, target immigrant communities, and hand billions of dollars in tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the most vulnerable. This legislation is cruel and if passed, promises to exacerbate our country’s mounting care crisis.
Massive Cuts to Medicaid and Medicare
The budget reconciliation bill proposes nearly $800 billion in cuts to Medicaid over the next decade, risking the loss of coverage for approximately 7.8 million people. It also sets up $500 billion in automatic cuts to Medicare between 2026 and 2034. These cuts would devastate the care infrastructure that millions of families depend on, making it harder for people to access in-home care, child care, and vital health services.
Domestic workers—many of whom are immigrant women of color—provide this essential care. They support aging adults, disabled family members, and children. Gutting Medicaid and Medicare doesn’t just weaken health systems—it directly threatens the jobs, wages, and stability of care workers and the families they serve. Upward of a million jobs could be lost due to Medicaid and Medicare cuts.
Increased Attacks on Immigrant Workers & Communities
The bill also escalates the administration’s mass deportation agenda, expanding the ability of ICE and local law enforcement to further target and terrorize immigrant communities. This would be the largest investment in enforcement since the creation of the Department of Homeland Security— expanding raids, detention centers and deportations— rather than honoring due process, asylum applications, or offering legal pathways to work and citizenship. These policies will further criminalize immigrant domestic workers and create fear and instability in the homes where they work and live.
A Tax Giveaway to the Wealthy
While slashing life-sustaining programs, the bill prioritizes massive tax cuts for the wealthiest individuals and corporations. As costs rise and working people struggle to pay for food, housing and caregiving, this bill will make the wealthiest 1% even richer. The administration is inflating the pockets of the ultra-wealthy at all of our expense.

- Oppose immigration enforcement provisions.
- Increase taxes on the wealthy and corporate profits.
- Support policies that invest in, rather than dismantle, our care infrastructure and support immigrant communities, making it easier to live and work in the U.S.
